Community Development
Community Economic Development Program
The Community Economic Development (CED) program is a strategic initiative designed to foster economic prosperity within our region. We empower organizations and not-for-profit groups to implement projects that cultivate vibrant communities and enhance the well-being of local residents. By providing targeted financial support, the CED program aims to build a foundation for sustainable growth and a brighter future for all.
With an annual budget of $50,000, the program offers grants up to $5,000 per project, with potential for larger allocations upon approval. Applications are reviewed quarterly, with deadlines on April 15, July 15, October 15, and January 15. The KDCDC Board reserves the right to authorize additional intake periods as needed.
CED Success Stories/Recent Disbursements

Friends of the Matheson Railway Station
KDCDC invests in projects that revitalize our communities, celebrate our history, and stimulate local economic growth. Recognizing the vital role the Matheson Railway Station played in the community’s history and its potential for future economic and social benefit, KDCDC provided a non-repayable contribution to fund the development of a comprehensive business plan. This crucial first step enabled the Friends of Matheson Railway Station group to engage a consultant and thoroughly assess the feasibility of restoring the station, which had been slated for demolition by the ONTC. This plan will lay the groundwork for the subsequent project phases, including building restoration, establishing community partnerships and securing further funding, and finally, the station’s marketing and operation.
Golden Corridor Snowdrifters
KDCDC is committed to investing in projects that strengthen our communities and boost local economies. We’re proud to share the success of a recent partnership with the Golden Corridor Snowdrifters (GCSD). Through our Community Economic Development program, we provided a non-repayable contribution of $5,000.00 to assist in the replacement of an aging bridge on the vital L101 snowmobile trail. This critical infrastructure improvement significantly enhanced safety and accessibility for snowmobilers, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable experience. Beyond the immediate benefits for winter recreation, this bridge replacement is a crucial component of a larger vision: a 25-kilometer multi-use trail, offering year-round recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike, further strengthening the communities we serve.
